Mideon Recalls the Whirlwind Events of WWE’s Infamous Curtain Call
WWE Attitude Era star Mideon made his debut in early 1996 as Phineas I. Godwinn. Just a few months later, he experienced the infamous “Curtain Call” at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in May 1996. Recently, Mideon shared his memories of that day on the Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway podcast, recounting a series of significant events.
“The office sent a car to pick us up, and it was me, [Mark] Henry, Savio [Vega], and Al Snow,” Mideon said. “It was the middle of the day before the Garden show, and we were taken to a hospital in Queens, where we visited low-income children who were never getting out. You just have to be nice and make them feel good for a little whileโgive them a shirt, play with them, and so on. Itโs a truly fulfilling experience when you realize, ‘Oh, I’m getting ready to wrestle in the most famous arena in the world, and this kid’s never leaving this room.'”
After the hospital visit, the WWE stars were emotional during the limo ride back to MSG. Upon their arrival, they were called into Vince McMahon’s office, where Mideon learned that he and Henry O. Godwinnโcollectively known as The Godwinnsโwere set to win the WWE Tag Team Championships that night.
“It also happened to be the night of ‘The Curtain Call,’ the night we won the belts,” Mideon explained. “After the match, the first thing I saw when we came back was Yokozuna at the curtain, watching our match with the ‘B.S.K’ (Bone Street Krew).”
