Matt Hardy Shares Why AEW All Out 2024 Syringe Spot Was Most Troubling
Matt Hardy is well-acquainted with extreme wrestling moments, but even he believes there are limits to brutality.
In the latest episode of “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy,” Hardy expressed concern over the syringe spot involving Swerve Strickland and “Hangman” Adam Page at All Out.
“The syringe scene, where Swerve had it in his cheek, was particularly jarring to me,” Hardy said. “It seemed out of place in the context of the story. It felt like the syringe was just used for shock value rather than fitting into the narrative.”
Hardy drew a comparison to a past spot where Randy Orton used Jeff Hardy’s piercings against him, specifically using a screwdriver found in a box of tools under the ring. Hardy notes that tools are a natural part of the wrestling environment.
“I understand how Orton could use that screwdriver. But syringes under the AEW ring? That seems unlikely. The syringe felt disconnected from their match and the overall storyline.”
Hardy also highlighted the loaded nature of the syringe image in wrestling, where past issues with steroids and drug abuse have cast a shadow. “There was a time when ketamine use was rampant in the late ’90s, making syringes carry a particularly negative connotation. That’s probably why the syringe spot bothered me the most,” Hardy concluded.
