Backstage News On Former WWE Star Winning AAA Cruiserweight Title At TripleMania

For those who tuned in on Saturday night via TrillerTV, whether by purchasing the event or catching the never-ending pre-show stream, AAA’s TripleMania XXXII: Mexico City delivered an unforgettable experience. One of the highlights was the three-way battle for the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship, where former WWE star Matt Riddle, despite not being a cruiserweight, emerged victorious by defeating the former champion AEW’s Komander and TNA’s Laredo Kid to claim the title.

Regarding Riddle’s unexpected Cruiserweight Championship win, a theory has surfaced. On Sunday’s “Daily Update,” Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggested that AAA’s decision to crown Riddle as champion was influenced by a need to move the belt off Komander due to his AEW obligations. Meltzer also highlighted the unusual choice of a heavyweight like Riddle winning a title in a division outside his weight class.

The rationale behind Riddle’s victory seems to conflict with some aspects of the match. Laredo Kid, who also competed against Komander and Riddle, could have been chosen to win the title. Furthermore, the event concluded with another AEW talent, Satnam Singh, walking away with AAA gold by winning the AAA World Tag Team Championships alongside his partner Raj Dhesi.

Singh’s triumph indicates that AAA is currently willing to place titles on AEW talent, despite previous concerns, leading to speculation about Komander’s future with AAA. Meanwhile, Riddle is expected to begin a feud with El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., who previously defeated him in June. After his victory on Saturday, Riddle challenged Hijo del Wagner, requesting a “no rules” match.
