Backstage News on Bobby Lashley’s AEW Status
With MVP and Shelton Benjamin recently signing with AEW, the anticipation is building for a potential reunion with Bobby Lashley and his former Hurt Business stablemates. As fans look forward to the AEW WrestleDream pay-per-view in Tacoma, Washington, many speculated that Lashley might make his debut during the event, especially given MVP’s ongoing storyline with former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland.
In response to the speculation, Fightful Select reached out to their sources within AEW, uncovering that there were early indications Lashley was indeed considered for a debut at WrestleDream. The report suggested he was slated to attack Strickland, but AEW ultimately scrapped those plans. The reasoning was that Bryan Danielson was also scheduled for an attack later in the show, and having two Washington natives receive beatdowns would have been too much.
However, Fightful’s sources believe that Lashley is expected to make an appearance within the next few weeks to team up with MVP and Benjamin. That said, he has yet to be spotted backstage and was not present at WrestleDream.
MVP has been vocal about his criticisms regarding Lashley’s usage in WWE prior to his departure from the company. He acknowledged WWE’s focus on younger talent but expressed confusion over Lashley being removed from the title picture, especially considering he still outshines many of the younger performers. MVP also pointed out that the exit of Brock Lesnar created another opportunity for Lashley that should have been capitalized on. Now that the trio is back together, it remains to be seen whether they will find success in AEW and if MVP can guide the stable in the direction he originally envisioned.
