AEW’s Thunder Rosa Offers Injury Update To Explain Absence
After a 16-month hiatus due to a back injury, Thunder Rosa made her return to the ring in December 2023. Unfortunately, the former AEW Women’s Champion has now announced a new injury, though recovery is expected to be relatively brief.
In an appearance on “Busted Open Radio,” Rosa disclosed that she is currently dealing with a concussion. She stated that she will be sidelined for “a couple of weeks” as she recovers. The specifics of how the concussion occurred have not been revealed. With Concussion Awareness Day approaching, Rosa urged listeners to follow Chris Nowinski, CEO of the Concussion Legacy Foundation and former WWE star, for valuable information and research on concussions.
Rosa’s most recent match took place on the August 31 episode of “AEW Collision,” where she competed in a four-way match alongside Hikaru Shida, Serena Deeb, and Queen Aminata. The winner earned a title shot at the TBS Championship, currently held by Mercedes Mone. Shida emerged victorious after delivering an enzuiguri and a round-house kick to Aminata.
Before this, Rosa was involved in a notable feud with “The Virtuosa” Deonna Purrazzo. What began as a tag team partnership turned into a rivalry after Rosa, in a dazed state, shoved Purrazzo during the April 10 episode of “AEW Dynamite,” leading Purrazzo to respond with profanity. The feud culminated in a Texas Bullrope Match on “Collision” last month.
