UFC Fight Night on September 7, 2024, will take place at the UFC Apex Arena in Las Vegas, NV. At 38 years old, Gilbert Burns enters this main event after back-to-back losses, but the context is crucial. Brady, on the other hand, struggled in the second round of his fight against Muhammad when things became scrappy, whereas Burns thrives in such situations. If Burns can push the pace, tire both fighters out, and land heavy shots, he could overwhelm Brady.
Brady is an incredibly skilled fighter, particularly in transitional wrestling and grappling, which he combines with sharp boxing and well-timed counters. His best approach in this fight would be a two-pronged attack: testing Burns’ defensive wrestling and using his footwork and counter-punching to punish Burns’ more straightforward attacks. If Brady can control the pace and avoid getting drawn into a brawl, he has a good chance of landing the better shots and winning the exchanges.
Like recent matchups such as Cannonier vs. Borralho, this is a fight where the odds would have been different a couple of years ago. Brady is a top-10 talent in his prime, while Burns is facing the challenges of age and recent injuries. Burns will need to replicate the relentless pressure strategy that Belal Muhammad used to force Brady into making mistakes. However, Burns’ defense isn’t as strong as Muhammad’s, and it’s likely that Brady’s clean shots will cause Burns to back off, reducing the pressure and allowing Brady to capitalize.
